Located in the northern panhandle of Idaho, Bonner County, (pop. approx. 43,000), is known for its magnificent lakes, stunning mountains, vast forests, and vibrant communities. Sandpoint, with a population of just over 8,300, is the county seat and the largest city in the county. Sandpoint is nestled between three mountain ranges, offering year-round outdoor recreation.
Established in 1907, Bonner County is governed by a three-member Board of County Commissioners and operates on a 2020-21 budget of $54.2 million, with approximately 405 FTEs, as well as a large number of seasonal workers. Under supervision of the Manager of Engineering, the Staff Engineer position will require the ability to draw proficiently in AutoCad (Version 14 or higher), be proficient in mathematical calculations involved in the development and review of storm water management plans, roadway design and construction, project cost estimation, design of solid waste collection or transfer sites, generate bid documents and manage construction projects, including materials procurement, project invoicing and pay requests, and assist the various departments as directed. Experience designing commercial office buildings, accessory structures, and small water or septic systems is also preferred.
A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent four-year degree from an accredited university or any sufficient combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities so as to competently perform the essential functions of the job is required. Candidates must possess or be able to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) license valid in the State of Idaho within the first 6 months of employment and have experience in the use of Autocad software. A minimum of two years of experience as a licensed engineer is preferred.
