Abbreviated Job Description:
Under general direction of the Planning & Engineering Manager, the Civil Engineer series performs a wide variety of professional field and office work in the associated with the operation and maintenance of water conveyance facilities.
Examples of duties of the Civil Engineer are illustrative only and are not meant to be a complete and exhaustive listing of all of the duties and responsibilities of the classification: develops quantity and cost estimates, designs, plans, and specifications for the repair, maintenance and construction projects on Authority structures and facilities; provides project coordination functions on assigned projects; reviews and provides comments on environmental impact reports and encroachment requests that impact the Authority facilities; prepares comprehensive reports, budget estimates, and informational data for engineering projects; prepares feasibility studies for modifications to Authority facilities; prepares requests for proposals for the advertisement of construction projects; investigates, reviews drawings, and prepares comments/recommendations for right of way use submittals; prepares material specifications and orders materials for assigned projects; participates in monitoring/inspecting construction projects. Prepares environmental assessment reviews; meets with developers and outside engineers/consultants to discuss concepts and general requirements for new projects; participates in the development and management of the Authority 10-Year Extraordinary O&M Projects; serves as Authority engineer on repair, maintenance, and construction projects; represents the Authority in coordination with other utilities, regulatory agencies, governmental bodies, planning agencies, trade and professional associations, technical groups, and developers; prepares correspondence related to engineering projects; represents the Authority at meetings and conferences as delegated; provides support to the Department Manager in making presentations regarding engineering project/issues to the Board of Directors; related duties as assigned.
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a BS Degree in Civil or Agricultural Engineering or a closely related engineering field
Three or more years of professional level civil engineering experience, two years of which must have been in a position which involved serving as project engineer or resident engineer on construction projects
Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil or Agricultural Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration; Possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License with a driving record acceptable to the Authority’s automobile insurance carrier is required.
